J/Boats reward their owners with superior handling and performance. That means winning ways on the racecourse and fast, safe passages on coastal or offshore cruises. Every J has a low centre of gravity for stability and sail-carrying ability, a balanced hull shape for a sea-kindly motion, and a spade rudder for the ultimate in maneuverability.
The advanced composite construction ensures that for their size, these boats are faster, lighter and stronger than their contemporaries. The patented SCRIMP process pulls triple the normal vacuum-bagging levels to draw all the air out of the cored hull & deck laminates and to draw a slow-curing resin into every void in a single step. It offers higher strength (due to 65% glass content vs. typical 40%) and a void-free laminate far superior to hand lay-up or chopper gun construction used by others.
The International J/24 was the first production boat designed by Rod Johnstone from J/Boats, with the first boat being launched in 1977. There are now over 6,000 racing one-design throughout the world.
The J/Boat range predominantly have retractable carbon bow sprits to efficiently fly asymmetric spinnakers. J/Boats pioneered this asymmetric sailing system which not only enhances performance but also provides ease of handling.
The model numbers are based on the metric length. (ie J/70 is 7.0m and J/122 is 12.2m.) The range comprises the Sport models J/70, J/80, J/92 S, J/111, the Cruiser/Racer models J/97, J/108, J/109, J/122, J/133, and the Day Sailors J/95, J/100
Launched in 2011, interest worldwide for the J/111 speedster is strong, with dozens of new owners revelling in their sailing experience. J/111's are already sailing in at least ten countries on five continents- a remarkably strong debut for the next generation international one-design off the J drawing boards and the first J to go global in less than twelve months!
The J/70 Sportsboat (22.75 feet) is J/Boats' first ramp-launchable keelboat - designed to fulfill the growing need for an easy-to-own, high performance one-design that is exciting to sail, stable enough sailboat for the family, and built to last. Launched in mid 2012, the J/70 is realising its potential with nearly 300 orders taken in just a few months. The J/70 has just arrived in Australia so give us call to see what all the excitement is about, and jump on board the next-generation sportsboat.
